It opens up into a decked out studio showing Riley and Lee sharing a laugh. It cuts into different shots of the furniture, recording booth, mixing board, keyboard etc etc to end on a shot of a platinum plaque with Phoenix Quagliaterreâs photo in the center with the word âLOYALTYâ across the bottom. It then cuts back to Lee & Riley on the couch as they begging to speak
LEE: Yo! What's poppinâ y'all? I'm Lee Quinn.
RILEY: And I'm Static Shock. And this is⌠what they calling this? I can't remember.
LEE: âBehind The Bopsâ I think. Yeah, that's it. Welcome y'all. This is where we'll talk about the tracks we specifically did for the season 2 soundtrack. You wanna give em a lil backstory first?
RILEY: Yeah. So, uhm, after the first season ended I started to get noticed a lot more in the industry. Especially after working on the Insecure album with Jazmine Sullivan and the âLoyalty' track with Phe and Kenny, which I still don't know how I pulled that off. Anyway, they were talking about doing a compilation album for this new season since most of the cast are involved in music in one way or another and we said hell yeah. So we were able to get four tracks in on our end.
LEE: One of em, y'all kinda heard a preview of with Riley in one of the earlier episodes. We worked on the skeleton of the track to send to Raven and after she worked her magic, it became âLove Droughtâ.
Riley was looking down the entire time. Even when Lee finished he didn't look up but he began to talk
RILEY: As fans of the show may know, I was in a relationship with this guy named Khalil. We were seeing each other on and off since high school. I was faithful and loyal and all that shit to him but he wasn't to me. I just ignored it and had these stages of denial the whole time. I wrote this from the in-time-we-can-make-it-work stage. He ended up getting me locked up in juvie and I still fucked with him. Dumb off dick, I guess.
LEE: We sent Rae the track and she came right on in and killed it. Re-worked the lyrics, beefed up the harmonies and added so much emotion & weight to it.
RILEY: that âspend my life in the dark for the sake of you and meâ line was some real ass shit. Now that track we did with Phe.
LEE: Ayye! Let me tell you how dope she is. She comes into the studio on her classy shit with wine, bags full of tree, snacks and edibles cuz she knows Ry likes the cookies. And we spent a whole 3 or 4 hours getting buzzed and high just talking shit before we actually started working.
the two share a quick laugh
RILEY: I forgot what we were talking about but it led to Phe saying something like âAIN'T NUNNA DIS SHIT PROMISED, NIGGA! NUNNA DIS, MUHFUCKA!â and that sermon got the ball rolling for âNothing Is Promisedâ.
LEE: I'm more accepting - I guess is the right word - of the whole minimalistic/trap sound than Ry is and when she said that I thought it would sound fire if she rapped it on a chorus or something and that turned out being the whole song. We already had this emotional ride with Rae, so I thought it was cool to have fun and bring the energy back up with Phe. The way she rides in on the first verse when we muffled the beat, I knew we had a winner. We just loved how her voice builds up with the beat in the verses. Now on to the song that was crafted for people like this nigga, âThotlineâ.
Riley looks at Lee shocked while holding in a laugh
RILEY: Shut up!
LEE: Aiite, who showed up to a Halloween party in his draws though?
RILEY: Man, I couldn't find anything. Besides it was my party, I could've showed up in anything I wanted. You wasn't complaining.
LEE: Okay, thotty.
Riley leans in to Lee's ear to whisper something about the whole subject. He leans back on his biting his lip and smiling. Lee just looks at him out of the corner of his eyes.
LEE: Broke my concentration. I can't stand you.
Lee leans over on the couch letting out a hearty laugh as Riley took over
RILEY: Jaiden wanted to go in this with a fun, summertime bop feel. This is another one that's minimal and perfect.
LEE: That opening line about homegirlâs real name tripped me out. Then the one about already met the team.
Lee looks over to Riley
RILEY: The fuck you tryna say, Leland??
LEE: You can call my real name, I don't care. My statement still stands. Witcha thot ass.
Lee sticks his tongue out at Riley who just laughs
RILEY: ANYWAY! We went through a couple drafts before landing to this mellow, top down in the whip feel. Y'all originally wanted a trap&b vibe to it but I wasn't feeling any of those cuts. Like, Jaiden can SING. I wanted to hear him singing like I know he can.
LEE: True. But in the end, we did compromise on merging the two sounds and it turned out great. We got the best of both worlds with him. And now the 2nd song with Raven⌠âAll Nightâ.
RILEY: Back in my feelings on that one. Me and my cousin were in the studio just talking and this came about as a part 2 to âLove Droughtâ. Like a resolution to all the questions and wondering and hoping that I wanted out of the situation with Khalil, but never got, and the actuality that Rae experienced because her and her man - Sup, Cameron - have been through so much since they started dating when they were in high school. All the breaking up, arguing, lying etc etc, now they're happily together with 2 kids!
LEE: Also, it kinda came at the right time in terms of the show, because Trapp and Jalen are engaged now with all the stuff they've been through. Congrats to them.
RILEY: Yip yip! So that's it. Those are the 4 tracks we cooked up for the season. Stay tuned, I guess, for the other niggas that worked on some tracks or whatever? That sounded hoodrat-ish as fuck didn't it?
LEE: Eh. And why you cuss so much?
RILEY: Nigga, wha? I don't cuss the fuck enough. Let tell your ass something. Tryna regulate my words n shit. The fuck you-
Lee goes to whack Riley with a pillow from the couch, but Ry jumps up in time to dodge it.
LEE: I'm Lee, that knuckle head is Riley. Thanks for watching y'all.
A pillow flies in frame hitting Lee upside the head as the scene Fades to Black
