The scene opens as Chris Shields walked around the house of his big brother Jason. Who shared it with his girlfriend Mylee Ransom. They had a beautiful relationship. All of the Shields brothers where able to move on from their troubled past. Find the loves they all needed.
All except Chris, he didn't mind it though. He was sure the right girl would come along at the right time.
Chris smiled as he sat down on the couch with a bottle and a glass full of ice sitting on the table in front of him. He was only looking to chill and relax turning on some music he leaned back into the couch.
Why did it have to be this song coming on. He listened to the opening closing his eyes and feeling the music. As the first verse started he sat up pouring himself a glass.
"I just wanna meditate
Said it with this glass of liquor pouring out my spiritual guidelight,
Take me to the other side
Who ever said escaping your problems with empty bottles
Would only delay them til tomorrow? Yes we surely ride
When the world said fuck ya, how would you reply?
No need to whisper how you feel, this is you and I"
*Flashback*
"Ay cuz. You thought about what I told you homie?"
Jason looked back at the man standing behind him clad in blue. He watched as the four of them walked away. "I'm just trying to walk my brothers home from school" "You can't run from this, Crip or die lil homie." That was the first time the Shields got an offer like that, it wasn't the last. Every time walking home from school four boys has to turn theses men down. It was only a matter of time before that would no longer work.
"This so stupid to tell you this wasn't real, be so eager to take it, just how I feel
But let's be honest, the real reason I'm here,
To be clear I was never the man of steel
I fell victim too many times to count,
Too many times I've died, too many things I doubt
Not enough love in my house, my house is not enough,
It's filled with pointless things and those things keep piling up,
Those things'll leave you crushed if they fall,
To be real I don't think you feel me at all,
Can you hear me at all?"
*Flashback*
"You ready to put in work Blood?""
Fenix stood side by side with his brothers Jason, Chris and Marcus. They did their best to stay away from this life. But when this is all you know, it was bound to happen sooner or later. They got their orders, the owner of the corner store owed some money. Get it by any means. Fenix looked to Chris and Marc, they seemed ready to go. Maybe too ready. Jason...well he just gave in. Turning the Crips down sent him to the hospital. These are boys mind you, Marcus the youngest being twelve They put those red bandanas over their face and started on the wrong path.
It was simple, go in get the money get out. You know people are in there shopping, maybe we can get something for ourselves. Four boys ran into the store, Jason pulling his gun shooting in the air.
BANG!!
"Everyone on the FUCKING FLOOR. NOW!!"
Bodies dropped as if Jason shot them, again this was life. Everyone in the store was used to this by now. Marcus jumped the counter and held his gun in the face of the owner. Well he got it as high as he could. Chris came up behind him. "Empty the register. Be quick about it!"
Fenix walked around the men and women on the floor. He reached down taking a watch, then another and another. Jason grabbed purses and any wallets they could. "Lets get the fuck outta here Blood!"
Chris yelled out to his brothers and just as fast as they came in they were gone.
*Present*
It's funny how the mind works when you sit back and meditate. Everything felt so real like he was living those moments all over again. He never touched the glass.
"How can I stop, when I'm too far gone,
To get back where I came from
I was searching for some answers at a bar with some dancers,
And I found out there really ain't none
And the bottom of my glass is just as empty as my lesson,
Count it with my friends and my loved ones"
*Flashback*
"You see how they dropped Blood? They knew what it was about homie. J pulled up in there and was like "Run that shit!"
With nerves gone Fenix smiled. They only got a few blocks away, walking down the street celebrating this conquest. The cops got the report, four boys in red. Shame they didn't have the sense to even try and hide their colors."Oh shit! Cops split up!!"
The scattered as red and blue lights lit up the night. The real red and blue that can put you away for years. They ran, they jumped fences, cut through allies but it didn't help. The sound of those doors shutting was inevitable.
"I apologize, for what? I don't know
Too many times I did it and it shows, I feel it in my soul,
There's a burning in my stomach and it's churning in slow
And it grows every time I hit a low"
*Present*
Chris stood from the couch and walked around the living room. Maybe some air yeah? He walked out on the balcony and looked out at the city. They overcame all the dumb stiff, but not without a cost.
*Flashback*
"Jason Shields, Fenix Shields and Chris Shields. I understand this is your first offence but it's a hell of one. I see to many young men having to sentence them to years in prison. I don't want that for you but I will not just give you a slap on the wrist. You will serve Eighteen months in the Tulare Cnty Juvenile Detention Center. Marcus Shields, your parents have arranged transportation for you to live with your uncle in Seattle. I hope you boys learn from this and be better."
Chris jumped just a little as the gavel came down. They turned quickly giving Marcus a hug before being led out to the bus. No words exchanged with the parents, they left right out after sentencing. Marcus followed his guard to a car that will take him to the train station.
{12 Months Later}
"Hey baby, it's mom. I know you and your brothers only have Six months left but your father and I won't be coming to get you. You'll be living with your uncle from now on. We're leaving baby, from LA for good. Your father refuses for me to let you all know where. Take care baby, I love you."
That didn't come as a shock, a year has past and this was first contact. Fenix dropped the phone and walked away.
*Present*
Chris smiled, true he and his brothers didn't live the best of lives. But they put the past and pain behind them. Once he, Jason, and Fenix got out. They moved to Seattle and reunited with Marcus. He was looking good, his wrestling training made a change in him. So much they started it took off for Fenix and Marc while Jason started his own night club. Chris, well he was still undecided. The cost had been paid and then some.
Chris pushed away from the railing and walked back into the apartment. He looked down as his watch. The opening for Illusions was in a few hours. Time to get ready. New Chapters to start.
He walked past the coffee table with the glass still there. No need to drown his sorrows. Who knows if none of that shit happened. He might not be here in this moment right now.
"So I sit here, and I think back on all the things I wanted in life and all the things that I've accomplished. I'm more fulfilled then I ever have been before. I still lose - I've still lost, but I love, and I'm living. There's nothing better in this world than to be for sure. And I'm sure - I'm sure enough in what I do, and how I do it. There's a lot of people around me that believe in me. And I depend on them to see me through this - this life of mine. Let's hope this journey that we take. All these moves that we make. Are the right ones... while I meditate".
