The scene opens up in Miami, FL on Collins Ave, Prime 112 is shown crowded as usual on this beautiful sunny evening. The scene fades inside where Brooklyn Carter•West is shown making her way inside one of the private areas set up for her and her guest. She takes a seat placing her Chanel bag on the chair next to her and she opens up one of the menus.
BROOKLYN CARTER•WEST: I know for a fact today is going to be one of the hardest days I’ve ever had to face. I’m getting ready to have a conversation that I probably should have had way back but I guess at that time it wasn’t right.
Brooklyn sighs.
BROOKLYN CARTER•WEST: But that time has finally come and hopefully the outcome is more positive then negative.
The scene cuts back to Brooklyn inside the restaurant, she continues looking thru the menu but hears a familiar voice yelling not her name but middle name in the background, that could only mean one person. She looks up and smiles at the sight of her ex boyfriend and friend James Shark making his way to the table.
JAMES SHARK: Aye are you sure you wanna eat here? I just saw one of the staff head around back with a bloody trash bag and there was a dog’s paw stickin’ outta it.
He pauses and looks around to see people staring up at him in both horror and disgust.
JAMES SHARK: Just kiddin’ everybody, bon ape-titty.
He gets closer to Brooklyn with a chuckle. Brooklyn gets up from the table and the two embrace each other with a soft but friendly hug.
BROOKLYN CARTER•WEST: I know everyone is probably wondering what the hell I'm doing sitting down with James Shark, there’s a couple reasons but really we have history, a lot of it. And the way we ended things was horrible, yeah we’re both in healthy respectful relationships but in the back of my head I’ve always kind of missed our friendship.
The scene cuts back to Brooklyn and Shark, by this time Brooklyn has already ordered her drink, James on the other hand is being picky about what’s on the menu.
BROOKLYN CARTER•WEST: Always indecisive, I see some things haven’t changed.
JAMES SHARK: Shhh. Please don’t talk to me while I’m makin’ this life changing decision. There’s like 13 different drinks on here and I’ve cut my choices down to about 5. Just shh. I’m almost done, Marie.
Brooklyn shakes her head trying not to laugh.
BROOKLYN CARTER•WEST: You are fucking insane I swear, anyway Thank you for taking the time out to see me today.
James ignores her and makes a face. He moves his finger around the menu then closes his eyes and picks a drink. Once the waiter comes around he tells him what he wants. Now with his decision out of the way, Shark focuses on Brooklyn. Brooklyn pauses, she looks at Shark still wondering what his reaction would be. She takes a sip of her drink forcing the wine down and ordering another.
BROOKLYN CARTER•WEST: Yes another one please.
Brooklyn chuckles.
BROOKLYN CARTER•WEST: I guess I should get right to it, I don’t want to keep you long and plus I have to go get the twins.
James rolls his eyes some. Hearing about the twins used to bring him great joy, now? He was just annoyed by just hearing about them.
JAMES SHARK: I used to really love bein’ around those two lil boys and hearing about them but maan. I don’t care what none of you fuckin’ think about me as a person or if yall judge me, but I really - really can’t stand hearin’ bout em now. Real shit. Like… look-it. The more arguments me and Brooklyn had in our relationship and the more separations and blowups we had really caused me to be distant with em’ and not see em’ as much. Shit ain’t got nothin’ to do with me. I hate that they got involved with our fights but it is what it is. Anywho. It got me thinkin’ certain things and yall already know my stance on em’. I been very public about how I feel about our connect. There is none. Simple.
The scene cuts back as James scratches the back of his ear, trying not to get annoyed.
JAMES SHARK: I thought we was havin’ dinner? No wonder that nigga just brought me a drink menu. Damn, so y’all set me up huh? I’m hungry as hell, but shiiiiit. Whatever, what is it?
James sits up in his seat, wondering what she wanted to tell him. Part of him was nervous because they had just reconciled and he didn’t want to argue with her over whatever it was she had to say.
BROOKLYN CARTER•WEST: Nah, i wanted to make this quick and less painful ass possible, I mean I guess at this point we’re both numb and over what happened between us and that’s good but at the end of the day I always felt like we were always better as friends than anything.
Brooklyn takes a long pause, the waiter brings over more drinks and places them on the table.
BROOKLYN CARTER•WEST: The guy I’m with now has kind of always been around, before you, during you and of course after you. Well during one of our breaks August and I had sex and I mean multiple times and for sometime I always thought in the back of my head whether or not the twins were really yours.
Brooklyn shakes her head, as bothered as she was, she wanted the truth out and was ready to be set free from this secret and to really move forward with her friendship with Shark.
BROOKLYN CARTER•WEST: After that huge fight we had, I stay single for awhile but August and I kind of reconnected but that doesn’t matter, what matter is the twins and I just wanted to tell you that the twins aren’t yours. After we took a DNA test it was confirmed that August is indeed the father of the twins.
Brooklyn sits there looking at Shark.
JAMES SHARK: The twins and you….
He repeats after her mumbling under his breath, chuckling, knowing she probably didn’t mean to say it that way.
BROOKLYN CARTER•WEST: I’m sorry, and I’m sure that’s great news to you but regardless of how you feel, I didn’t want to go on in life knowing I had that huge secret.
BROOKLYN CARTER•WEST: Yes the cat is out of the bag, now I’m sure the social world is going to love this but I honestly don’t care. I may have money and fame but I make the same mistakes everyone else.
The scene cuts back to the two.
JAMES SHARK: Don’t apologize. This is…. It’s..
He scratches the back of his neck awkwardly.
JAMES SHARK: It’s uh relief really. After all those times we fought I’ve always thought about them two niggas. When I started tellin’ the media that they weren’t mine, it wasn’t cuz I was angry or tryna stir more shit. It was what I really felt. Shit. At the end of the day they don’t look like me. You had your suspicions of me cheatin’ with all those photos on the net and I had my suspicions of you too. I just didn’t think it was with that nigga West. I thought it was Kai.
James laughs some, looking down at the table, thinking about all the drama he had with that dude.
JAMES SHARK: But like I said, even though I felt they weren’t mine and I disconnected from them. Hearing you confirm it really makes me feel a lot better. Even though I had my thoughts, there was always the ‘what if’ you know? What if I was wrong and I abandoned em’ type shit? Glad that ain’t the case. Last thing I’d wanna do is become like my father. You know how that piece of shit was.
He smiles some now looking at her.
JAMES SHARK: Since you bein’ 100 with me I should be 100 with you. I was always loyal with you but once our fights got real intense. Like that time we had the huge fight at our house with the police bein’ called to the residence? That’s when the unfaithful shit started to kick in. Just like West, I was with Harley durin’ and after you, but there was also another woman. Coree. I ended up gettin’ her pregnant. She got two boys from me, but they not twins.
He chuckles and mouths. “Thank God”.
JAMES SHARK: It was kinda surreal to be sittin’ across from Brooklyn and tellin’ her that I had cheated on her. I feel like If I woulda told her this years ago, I woulda caught the wrong end of that machete of hers.
He laughs and shakes his head
JAMES SHARK: Just like it was kinda surreal to be sitting there to have her tell me she was fucking another nigga too… and for me to just be sittin’ there and not feel any type of anger? Wild. The whole thing is kinda crazy. I guess this go to show that although we got our history, the love that was there, the obsession, the lust… it’s all gone. Now we got our own relationships and we at a really good point in our life.
The scene cuts back to the two of them in the restaurant.
BROOKLYN CARTER•WEST: Damn we some fucked up individuals huh? Well at least we can sit here and laugh about it now. As for Harley I’ve never had any issues with that chick, if she makes you happy then that’s fine with me. My only concern was the twins and the future of our friendship.
BROOKLYN CARTER•WEST: To be honest I’m not even mad at James, that time of our lives we was having fun, we were young and living life without any consequences but as we grow older, we can look back at say damn we made some fucked up moves but at least we’re in a better place.
The scene cuts back to the two, Brooklyn motions for the waiter to bring the check and she looks at Shark.
BROOKLYN CARTER•WEST: I do want you to know I don’t regret what we had, it was a learning experience and we had some real good moments. I think this needed to happen and I’m glad it did, just know at the end of the day you’ll always have a friend in me.
JAMES SHARK: You really just hit me with a Toy Story quote? That’s tough.
He laughs and gets up from his seat, embracing her with a hug. The two then pay for their drinks and walk out of the restaurant, taking and catching up for a little more before they eventually go their separate ways, the scene fades and reopens in Los Angeles, the scene cuts to downtown where Brandon is shown inside his new store “Young Fetish”. After the amazing opening Brandon had, he decided to stop by his store today and kind of help out with whatever. He notices one of his employees Amaya over by one of the racks placing new products in the shelves.
BRANDON YOUNG•ANDEWS: I can’t believe we sold out of everything last night, the opening was crazy.
AMAYA STEEL: It was great, and your man bought half of everything I noticed.
BRANDON YOUNG•ANDEWS: Yeah, he got some stuff for himself and things for kids that don’t have like shoes and other clothes, you know with the holidays coming up it was only right.
AMAYA STEEL: It’s good that he supports you.
BRANDON YOUNG•ANDEWS: I guess, but I did this on my own, I waited and I saved until I had enough to invest into my own business and I did that.
AMAYA STEEL: I appreciate you allowing me to run the store and work here, especially with the predicament I was in, this really helped me out a lot.
BRANDON YOUNG•ANDEWS: Anytime boo, I already told you were are family. You’ve been around for so much of my shit and I wanted you to have something for yourself where you wouldn’t have to always rely on someone else.
BRANDON YOUNG•ANDEWS: Amaya and I go way back, she’s been with me through all the good, bad and evil. I knew the situation she had going on in her personal life so when I started looking for employees in my store I wanted to make sure I offered her a job that could possibly fix the issues she was having.
Brandon smiles.
BRANDON YOUNG•ANDEWS: That’s What friends do right? We look out for each other. Opening this store was a huge deal for me, it was something I always wanted to do so for it to finally happen, it was amazing and I only wanted good dependable people working in it.
The scene cuts back to Brandon and Amaya, Brandon walks over to the main window, he looks out and notices a familiar truck pulling up. He blushes a bit knowing that it’s Drake so he turns and rushes to the back.
AMAYA STEEL: What? What the hell are young doing?
Brandon peaks his head from the back.
BRANDON YOUNG•ANDEWS: Drake’s here and I don’t know why.
AMAYA STEEL: Uh to see his man maybe, duh.
BRANDON YOUNG•ANDEWS: Nah he up to something, he just popping up.
The scene fades back to the outside where Drake is shown exiting the truck with box in one hand and a blue piece of paper in the other. Drake makes his way to the front entrance and opens the door. He approaches the counter and is greeted by Amaya.
AMAYA STEEL: Welcome to Young Fetish!
DRAKE ANDREWS: What's good ma? I know B here right?
AMAYA STEEL: Yeah he's in the back.
DRAKE ANDREWS: Tellem daddy here for me please.
Amaya smiles as she slips away to the back to get Brandon. Moments later, Brandon comes out with a fake mug on his face. Drake chuckles.
DRAKE ANDREWS: Why you acting like you not happy to see me. Come here man. Stop playing with me.
Drake pulls Brandon in and hugs him tightly.
BRANDON YOUNG•ANDEWS: Yes, Hi may I help you? I’m at work.
Brandon rolls his eyes but in a playful manner.
DRAKE ANDREWS: I see you doing big things man. Got ya store up and running. I'm proud of you B.
BRANDON YOUNG•ANDEWS: Thank you, it took me some years but I finally did it.
DRAKE ANDREWS: I miss ya crazy asss man. And the kids do too.
BRANDON YOUNG•ANDEWS: I mean I miss y’all too, but you know why I’m not around.
BRANDON YOUNG•ANDEWS: Don’t get me wrong, I miss my husband deeply and the kids too. But Drake did a lot of fucked up things to me, things I thought I moved on from but clearly I was still suffering emotionally and mentally from them. I was tired of the kids being called break babies or being judged for staying with someone who cheated, like it’s not like Drake was out here beating me up and shit, he cheated a couple times and technically it wasn’t cheating because we weren’t together.
Brandon shakes his head.
BRANDON YOUNG•ANDEWS: I don’t want it to look like I’m making excuses because the man did embarrass me. But I love him, I’ve spent six years with this man and he’s done nothing but help me
grow as a person, not only has he taught me about business and how to survive in the world, but he’s loved me unconditionally and I respect that.
The scene cuts back to Brandon and Drake, Brandon grabs ahold of Drake’s hand and pulls him to the back.
BRANDON YOUNG•ANDEWS: Amaya watch the store real quick.
The two head in the back and close the door.
BRANDON YOUNG•ANDEWS: You know everyone including you basically bought the whole store man, I’m busy right now trying to put everything back. Oh and thank you for that.
Brandon smiles. Drake smirks back at him.
DRAKE ANDREWS: I told you I always got you man.
DRAKE ANDREWS: I been doin a lotta thinking about all the conversations I've had with people. And maybe I haven't really been trying hard enough to get my family back. I think for a while I thought just being there financially was enough. That's what I always been used to. I been gettin a bag since I could count and most of the people I was wit was good as long as I kept them pockets fat. But B different. Granted he like all the money and the gifts and shit. He want my time. And my love. And that's something I’ll have to give em if I I wanna save my marriage. So I put in a lil work and I'd this works, I get my family back. If it doesn't, I'll sign whatever papers he want me too. But imma always make sure he good. Cuz that's what I do.
The scene returns to the two. Drake sits Brandon down on the chair in front of his desk. He then reaches into his jacket pocket and pulls out the small box. He tosses it on the desk in front of Brandon. He picks up the box
BRANDON YOUNG•ANDEWS: What is this Drake?
DRAKE ANDREWS: Open it and find out.
Brandon opens the box, and inside is a house key linked to a keychain with one of Brandon's guitar pics on it
BRANDON YOUNG•ANDEWS: Drake I already have a key to your house.
DRAKE ANDREWS: It's not a key to my house nigga damn. Why you gotta be so difficult! Look!
Drake sits the folded piece of paper up on the desk. He unfolds the paper to reveal a blueprint of what visually looks like a castle. Brandon looks over the blueprint.
DRAKE ANDREWS: This is our house…
Drake pauses, taking a step back
DRAKE ANDREWS: That's if you not ready to give up on us yet.
Brandon looks at the paper, he admires the visual but hands Drake the paper.
BRANDON YOUNG•ANDEWS: It’s cute.
BRANDON YOUNG•ANDEWS: Now don’t get me wrong I’m really screaming on the inside, but Drake always does this. He feels like money can fix all of our issues and that’s not the case.
Brandon shakes his head as the scene cuts back to the two.
BRANDON YOUNG•ANDEWS: Look Drake, I love the idea of us rebuilding and trying to start fresh but how do I know once we move in things won’t go back to being the way they are.
Drake sighs deeply
DRAKE ANDREWS: Yo, we both did some fucked up shit to each other. Some shit most people would walk away from. But I'll do whatever it takes man. This is just a start. I been tryna show you that I'm here. I ain't worried about nobody but us. Our family. And you know that B.
BRANDON YOUNG•ANDEWS: It’s always we both did fucked up shit but you went out and had multiple kids, there’s no chill in that Drake.
Brandon pauses.
BRANDON YOUNG•ANDEWS: But you know what, I’ll only do this if you agree on a few things.
DRAKE ANDREWS: What's that?
BRANDON YOUNG•ANDEWS: We have to at least do counseling and I have to have a huge closet.
DRAKE ANDREWS: Say less.
BRANDON YOUNG•ANDEWS: Then I’m down, you know I love you boy and I’ve been rocking with you all this time. I’m not going anywhere but things have to change man, and that goes for the both of us.
Drake pulls Brandon in and hugs him.
DRAKE ANDREWS: Soooo uuuuuuh. Does that mean you gon come back to the crib? I'm tired of this living separate shit man.
BRANDON YOUNG•ANDEWS: Yes I’ll come back, now can you let me get back to work, this is important to me.
Brandon leans in and kisses Drake, he places the key in his pocket.
BRANDON YOUNG•ANDEWS: I love you.
DRAKE ANDREWS: I love you to B.
Drake grabs Brandon by the hand and pulls him out to the store floor. He walks up to the cashier and pulls his wallet out of his pocket. He pulls out his black card and sits it on the counter
DRAKE ANDREWS: Wrap of everything for me ma.
He looks to Brandon
DRAKE ANDREWS: Now your work is done for the day. Now can I get some of your time for the afternoon.
BRANDON YOUNG•ANDEWS: Ugh, only you.
Brandon grabs ahold of Drake, he smiles and the two share another kiss as the scene fades and reopens at Keyshia's apartment. She is shown coming out of her kitchen into the living room with a bowl of popcorn in her hand. She plops down on the couch and grabs her remote. She turns the volume up on her flat screen. She sits back and enjoys her movie.
KEYSHIA HOWARD: Its been quite some time since I've entertained the idea of dating again. As happy as I am for Drake and his new family and life, it did take a little longer for me to move on from the idea of us. So I couldn't see myself dating someone else and putting them through me not being over my ex. But I have finally felt the urge to put myself out there in the dating world and I've been hanging out with a new guy that has been pretty cool. The kids are gone for the weekend so I figured I would finally invite him over for a little more personal time. I'm not ready for him to meet the kids just yet. I have to be sure before any other man comes around my babies. And Drake ain't having that either.
She chuckles as the scene returns to the apartment. She is shown opening the door for her guest who is revealed to be Vixen Diaries’ own, Ricky Barnes. She smiles as she invites him in.
RICKY BARNES: What's good girl?
KEYSHIA HOWARD: Hey handsome. Come on in.
KEYSHIA HOWARD: I can't seem to stay away from rappers.
She chuckles, shaking her head.
KEYSHIA HOWARD: I met Ricky at a showcase a few months ago and we exchanged numbers. But we only really talked on and off. But I guess as time went on, a connection happened and we linked. I wouldnt say we are together or even moving toward that yet. But I have been enjoying his company and he also seems to be enjoying mine so I like it.
The scene returns to the two who are now shown seated on the couch. Ricky wraps his arm around Keyshia
RICKY BARNES: Its looking like you got started without me.
KEYSHIA HOWARD: I just had this on till you got here. You hungry?
RICKY BARNES: I could definitely eat ma.
KEYSHIA HOWARD: Well you might just be in luck. I whipped up a lil something and I had some left over.
RICKY BARNES: Oh you had some left over huh? You sure you wasn't just tryna show off a lil bit?
KEYSHIA HOWARD: Baby boy, I am a mother of three! I throw down! Dont play.
RICKY BARNES: Oh I hear you. I guess I'll be the judge of that. What you whip up ma?
KEYSHIA HOWARD: Oh I just fried a lil chicken. You know. Baked a lil mac n cheese. Greens and cornbread. A lil something. Ya know.
RICKY BARNES: That sounds like love right now ma! Hook me up.
Keyshia disappears for a moment. Ricky sits back and gets comfortable while he searches for a movie for the two to watch. Keyshia reappears with a plate packed for a hungry man. Ricky's eyes widen as he smells the aroma and sees the plate
RICKY BARNES: Yo that smells bomb!
KEYSHIA HOWARD: I told you boy, I do this. Wait till you taste it.
KEYSHIA HOWARD: Its been awhile since I've cooked for a man other than my boys. So I guess I just wanted to test the waters. See if I still had it. Mama raised me right. I can hear her now… “Dont let that man walk outta here hungry, or you'll find in in the arms of another
She chuckles as the scene returns to the two. Ricky is shown devouring his meal as the two watch the movie.
KEYSHIA HOWARD: I guess I don't have to ask if you like it or not. Judging by how you're cleaning that plate.
Ricky continues chomping, talking with his mouth full.
RICKY BARNES: Man! That's an understatement. This is love ma! You just don't know how long it's been since I had a real home cooked meal. You know most of these chicks only know how to pick up the phone and order carry out.
The two chuckle
KEYSHIA HOWARD: Now I'm the queen of takeout.none of my kids eat the same thing. So damn picky. But I definitely like to throw down in the kitchen.
RICKY BARNES: Respect. Yo I was mad shocked when you said you had kids. You dont even look like you pushed out three. Damn.
KEYSHIA HOWARD: yea. Most guys are usually very intimidated by that. Especially ones that know who my babies’ father is.
RICKY BARNES: oh yea true I actually met yo before. My ex is signed to his label or was. I don't know anymore. We had a few words but nothing major. But nah. Definitely not intimidated over here ma. I'm tryna be all about you forreal.
Keyshia chuckles and blushes as Ricky sits his finished plate on the coffee table. He directs his attention to her.
KEYSHIA HOWARD: all about me huh? Well so far you're on the right track I guess.
RICKY BARNES: That's wussup ma. I'mma stay on that track as long as you want me to.
Ricky leans in and kisses her on her cheek. Then looks into her eyes for a moment and pulls her in for a kiss on her lips as the scene fades and reopens inside the King Beats Studio, Anthony is shown playing around with a beat for a song he was producing.
ANTHONY: Today I had to stop by the studio to finish up a couple tracks I was doing for this project I had coming up. Since Drake was in town I asked him to stop by, see if we could come up with some fire together, but I also wanted to let him know the info my boy Corey dropped on me. I felt like I wouldn’t be a friend to Drake if I didn’t give him the heads up, and even though Corey said it was innocent, he still should know.
The scene cuts back to the studio, by this time Drake is shown arriving. He pops open the door and daps Anthony before taking a seat.
DRAKE ANDREWS: what's good my guy?
DRAKE ANDREWS: so after everything that went down with that detective and B, I had to get away for a minute and clear my head. So I flew to Miami. My boy Ant called me and asked me to meet him at the stu so we could chop it up for a lil bit. We've actually worked on quite a few bangers together, so who knows maybe he got a lil something cooking.
The scene returns to the two.
ANTHONY: Everything good, life is good. I’m glad you could fly out though, I know you’ve been dealing with some crazy shit so I figured you needed to clear your head.
Anthony hands Drake a drink.
ANTHONY: You already know I had the drinks ready, but you alright though? How’s Brandon?
DRAKE ANDREWS: Man. Still kinda keeping at a distance forreal. He got into it with some niggas so I had to go handle that but he saying he don't want me to do nothing. It's too much goin on man.. what's good with you though.
ANTHONY: That some bitch shit what happened to him, you already know if you need me with whatever I got your back.
The two dap each other up.
ANTHONY: But everything good with me, and London good to, we working, trying to build our empire and possibly start a family. But speaking of Brandon, I got some shit I need to talk to you about.
DRAKE ANDREWS: I dont know if I'm ready to hear anything else bad when it comes to B.
The scene returns to the two
DRAKE ANDREWS: About B? What's good.
ANTHONY: So a few days ago I was out LA and was kicking it with a old highschool friend of mine. We get to talking about you know relationships and shit and he ends up telling me about a dude he’s been kicking it with.
Anthony pauses taking a sip of his drink.
ANTHONY: Now before you get all crazy and shit, he told me the boy was Brandon, showed me a picture and everything. He basically said that they went out on a few dates during y’alls little separation time but that was it, they never had sex and I believe him. But I wanted you to know, and my whole involvement in the whole thing because you already know I’m not about that shit.
ANTHONY: Even if their courtship was innocent, Drake still needed to know what was up.
The scene cuts back to the two.
ANTHONY: So what’s going on though? Like are y’all good?
DRAKE ANDREWS: I guess not man.
He shakes his head, taking a sip of his drink
DRAKE ANDREWS: Now…. Something just ain't right here. I just seen B. Why wouldn't he think that piece of information was important to tell me.
He shakes his head
DRAKE ANDREWS: I just can't fuckin win man.
The scene returns to the studio.
DRAKE ANDREWS:This is all news to me. I thought we were taking time apart but I damn sure ain't been chillin wit nobody.
ANTHONY:: You know I don’t like to get involved in people’s relationships but both of y’all are like family to me and I only wanna see y’all win. That’s a conversation that you two need to have but if my homeboy said it was innocent then I believe that.
DRAKE ANDREWS: Thanx for letting me know though. You a real one for that
ANTHONY: Are you going to say something to him about it?
DRAKE ANDREWS: I don't know man. I can't ignore it. But is it worth it with everything going on right now.
ANTHONY: I don’t think it is, the world is already a evil place to live in and the situation that happened with Brandon could have ended in a different way, so just be happy that he’s here. If you want to bring it up to see what his reasoning was then that’s cool, after that just move on and let it go.
DRAKE ANDREWS: you might be right man.
ANTHONY: But you already know we Day 1 bro, so you already know I got your back.
The two continue talking as the scene fades and reopens on the inside of Ylayna's matte black Mercedes g wagon. Ylayna sings along to Trina's “redemption”, which is blasting through her speakers.
Y’LAYNA BRYANT: Shit, I took pride in you, nigga. Shotgun, only one to ride for you, nigga. I cook, clean, even provide for you, nigga.Took my dreams and I put 'em to the side for you, nigga. What I get? Nuttin' at all. Instead of pickin' it up, you was duckin' my call. Instead of callin' the shots, you was hittin' the bar Clown nigga do anything to fuck with a star… Yasssssss Trina! Go awf bitch!
she continues singing along to the lyrics making her way toward her destination.
Y’LAYNA BRYANT: so today is a really big day for your girl. With the grand reopening of Layna's right around the corner. My label is doing well, my friendship with London is back on the rise. I have so much to celebrate. So I invited the whole gang to Nova to celebrate.
Y'layna pauses, flipping her hair.
Y’LAYNA BRYANT: Now I should be ecstatic. Things have been going really well in my life. At least on the business side. But my personal life has been a wreck and it's getting harder and harder to keep it together. Everyone's been asking, “where is majesty”? “Is everything okay?” And as much as I want to say yes, things after not great in the Montana Bryant clan. He and I have been quite distant. Anyone with eyes could see that. But we've been trying to work through our differences instead of just calling it quits. Well at least I've been trying. I can't say the same for your Majesty, and it's starting to drive me up a wall.
She rolls her eyes as the scene returns to her car. Her song is interrupted by an incoming facetime call from Majesty. She sighs rolling her eyes as she answers the phone
Y’LAYNA BRYANT: Yes Majesty….. how can I help you.
Majesty: Damn bad. I thought you would be more excited to hear from me.
Y’LAYNA BRYANT: I'm driving Majesty. What's up.
Majesty: Look I just wanted to let you knows that i wasn't gonna be able to make it to your dinner tonight.
Y’LAYNA BRYANT: of course not. What's the excuse this time?
Majesty: Come on bae l, I really tried but this video shoot went long. I wont be able to get back in town till morning.
Y’LAYNA BRYANT: I hear you boy. Iits just always something. You got me out here looking crazy. You havent been to one event. But when it comes to your music, I'm always right there to support ya big head ass.
Majesty: bae don't be like that. You know I support you. I just -
Y’LAYNA BRYANT: Majesty you dont support me. You really dont. You used to, but I don't know what happened. You stopped putting in work altogether and I'm tired of it.
Majesty: babe.. I'm sorry. I'll make it up-
Y’LAYNA BRYANT: Yea yea. Your famous line. You're always gonna make it up to me. Majesty I dont have time for this right now. I have an event to go to, full of all the people that actually support me.
Majesty: come on Lay. Don't be like this…
Y’LAYNA BRYANT: Bye Majesty…. I'll see you whenever you get in town if you have time for me.
Before majesty can respond, Y'layna presses the end button, disconnecting the call. He tries to call back but she sends him straight to voicemail. Her eyes water a bit as she continues driving. A tear falls down as the scene fades and reopens inside of The Nova, usually a packed establishment was closed to the public for a special dinner. Cameras catch glimpses of the lavishly decorated venue before panning back outside. A 2019 Hyundai Elantra is shown pulling up to the vallet. Keyshia is then shown climbing out of the car. She hands her keys to the valet and makes her way toward the inside.
KEYSHIA HOWARD: So I was invited to this dinner to celebrate the grand reopening of Y'layna's boutique. I don't know her personally but I have met her a few times off the strength of Drake. And I'm all about celebrating black excellence anyway so I'm definitely here to support. I'm also a little nervous because this is the first time that I'm gonna be in the same room as both Brandon and Mercedes. Brandon and i have of course interacted because he plays a big role in my children's life. And we did have a little spat in the past but we have worked past it and at least they to be civil for Drake's sake. Now Mercedes, I've never met. All I know is that she also has a son with Drake. and eventually we were going to have to meet anyway. But I don't know if this is really the right setting for a powwow between mothers. We'll just see how it all plays out I guess.
The scene returns to the venue. Keyshia is shown being greeted by one of the hostesses.
MARY:Hi, I'm Mary, welcome to Nova! Are you here with the Bryant party?
KEYSHIA HOWARD: I am.
MARY:Perfect! I'll be escorting you to your seat, if you would just follow me.
KEYSHIA HOWARD: Cool.
Mary smiles as she begins to lead Keyshia to the seating area. Cameras pan back to the inside of a black vintage 1965 Chevy impala. Drake is shown driving down the street blasting one of his own tracks.
DRAKE ANDREWS: So I'm on my way to this lil dinner party or whatever and B asked me to come scoop him on the way. I still haven't talked to him about what I found out from Ant. But I can't get that shit out my head man. Like I'm really buggin dog. Just the thought of somebody even pushing up on B don't feel right. I know we was taking a break but I ain't think it was that kinda break forreal.
The scene returns to the car. Drake is shown pulling up to his house. He picks up his phone and dials Brandon's number.
BRANDON YOUNG•ANDEWS: Hello, Cooper’s residence.
Brandon chuckles.
DRAKE ANDREWS: Yo. I hope ya ass is ready. I'm outside.
BRANDON YOUNG•ANDEWS: Oh wow, this is awkward. I’m kind of on the toilet right now.
DRAKE ANDREWS: Yo… hurrup
BRANDON YOUNG•ANDEWS: Nah I’m playing, I’m grabbing my bag right now and I’m coming out.
BRANDON YOUNG•ANDEWS: So Drake was invited to this little dinner by his manager Y’layna and of course I’m attending as his plus one. I needed this though because a lot of my friends were going to be in attendance and the way my life has been going, being around good people feels right.
The scene cuts back to Brandon exiting the they’re newly built home smiling from cheek to cheek. He walks down to the car and jumps in kissing Drake on the cheek and putting his seatbelt on. Drake pulls off and begins driving toward the event.
BRANDON YOUNG•ANDEWS: I am starving and these jeans feel painted on.
Brandon chuckles.
DRAKE ANDREWS: Ain't nobody tell you to wear then tight ass jeans.
Drake turns his attention back toward the road and goes silent. Brandon eventually breaks the awkward silence.
BRANDON YOUNG•ANDEWS: Why are you so quiet?
DRAKE ANDREWS: Just got some shit on my mind forreal.
BRANDON YOUNG•ANDEWS: Are you gonna talk about it?
Drake stops at a red light and looks over at Brandon.
DRAKE ANDREWS: Who's Corey?
DRAKE ANDREWS: I probably shouldn't have brought it up like that. But I feel like just get into ya know.
The scene cuts back to the car, Brandon sighs as he turns and looks at Drake.
BRANDON YOUNG•ANDEWS: No one important, or anyone you should be worried about.
BRANDON YOUNG•ANDEWS: I didn’t know what to say honestly or how he even knew, it’s not like I was trying to be secretive and hurt Drake, but at the time I met Corey it was on some friendly shit, nothing more. I ended that relationship because Corey wanted more, I didn’t.
The scene cuts back to the two.
BRANDON YOUNG•ANDEWS: During our separation I did go out a few times with friends, I ran into Corey and at first it was some network and friendly type of vibe, but he started to catch feelings so I left it alone and that’s the truth. I would have told you but it was so innocent, but I am sorry I didn’t tell you. I told you the last time that I was serious about us, I wouldn’t let anyone or anything come between us.
Drake pulls off as the light changes looking over to Brandon
DRAKE ANDREWS: I ain't mad or nothing. I just know I really got some work to do I guess. I don't want no other nigga even thinking they got a chance to even look in your direction forreal.
BRANDON YOUNG•ANDEWS: Understand me when I say this, I’m yours and only yours. As I grow older I realize the getting back method or being petty isn’t worth ending something that we both have fought for this long, we have a family and we are family.
Brandon leans over kisses Drake again on the cheek.
BRANDON YOUNG•ANDEWS: Now pull your dick out.
Brandon chuckles at Drake's reaction..
DRAKE ANDREWS: Oh you on some other shit huh
BRANDON YOUNG•ANDEWS: I’m just messing babe.
The two finally reach the dinner and they park, the scene cuts to inside where majority of the group is there. Mercedes is shown walking in with Marcus on her side, the two head towards the table and wave at everyone sitting down. Mercedes notices an empty chair beside Keyshia and she walks over and sits down.
MERCEDES: To bad Drake isn’t here to formally introduce me and his first baby mother, but since we are in the same room, I figured it would be nice to just go over and introduce myself since our kids are siblings.
The scene cuts back to the dinner.
MERCEDES: Keyshia correct? I’m Alicia.
Mercedes extends her hand. Keyshia stands up to formally greet her.
KEYSHIA HOWARD: yeah. I'm Keyshia. I definitely know who you are. I'm actually a fan. But I have to admit it is definitely a little awkward meeting you.
MERCEDES: Don’t feel uncomfortable or anything, I’m just a normal ole girl. But I appreciate the love, I don’t know why we haven’t gotten the chance to meet yet especially since we both share the same baby daddy. But it’s good that we’re meeting now, hopefully in the future we can schedule some play dates and really get to know one another.
KEYSHIA HOWARD: I would love that! I told Drake it was past time for us to meet. I love your son. I think he's amazing. So I think that's dope.
KEYSHIA HOWARD: whew! That went a lot better than I expected it to. I would have thought Drake would have been the one to introduce us, but I feel like it was very big of her to come over and introduce herself. I was worried for nothing.
The scene returns to the dinner. By this time both Drake and Brandon has joined the dinner, the two sit and the scene cuts back to the entrance where London and Anthony are shown arriving with Brooklyn and August. They all walk into the room and embrace everyone.
LONDON CARTER•KING: Ya know I’m ready to eat.
BROOKLYN CARTER•WEST: I need some wine first, that drive was obnoxious.
AUGUST WEST: You was sleep though.
BROOKLYN CARTER•WEST: Boy bye!
BRANDON YOUNG•ANDEWS: Who are we waiting for?
LONDON CARTER•KING: Y’layna hasn’t showed up yet, but it looks like everyone else is here.
The waiter walks out and starts taking people’s drink orders, and the scene cuts back to the parking lot. Y'layna is shown pulling up to valet in her 2019 Mercedes g wagon. She hands the keys to the driver as she gets out and makes her way into the dinner.
Y’LAYNA BRYANT: I've finally arrived. And I'm ready to celebrate with my friends and family. The ones that showed up here tonight are all I'm worried about. If Majesty can't make time for me, then he can catch me when I'm free. Everyone else has jobs and is busy but they made the time to be here so at this point he's running out of excuses.
The scene returns to the dinner. Y'layna is shown walking in greeting everyone with smiles and hugs.
Y’LAYNA BRYANT: Hi guys! Sorry I'm a lil late but yall look like yall already got started on drinks. Yass!
LONDON CARTER•KING: Yes, the drinks were needed.
Y’LAYNA BRYANT: I'm so glad yall could all gather around one table tonight with your girl! This means so much!
BRANDON YOUNG•ANDEWS: It’s crazy how all of us are here though, that much power and money in one room.
ANTHONY: Facts.
LONDON CARTER•KING: So there are a couple reasons why everyone is here, I know on the evite it was a celebration for Y’layna and what she has going on, which she’s about to go into in a second but there are other things going on.
BROOKLYN CARTER•WEST: Hopefully good.
Y’LAYNA BRYANT: All good! Tonight is definitely a night of celebration, and family, and love! But speaking of family, I want my best friend to stand up. I think he has a little announcement that he would like to share with everyone while we all have our drinks.
LONDON CARTER•KING: Tonight wasn’t just about Y’layna but also about me, she was kind enough to allow me to give everyone the news about me and Anthony having a baby.
London laughs.
LONDON CARTER•KING: Well we’re not having a baby ourselves but you get the picture.
The scene cuts back to the dinner, London is shown standing next to Anthony who also stands beside him. The two hold each other’s hands and London starts to speak.
LONDON CARTER•KING: Thank you Y’layna, I want to keep this short and sweet because I don’t want to take away from Y’layna’s celebration, by the way congratulations boo. But as you all know Anthony and I have been talking about starting a family and just a few days ago we’ve already started the process, so yes we are expecting.
Everyone stands and applauds the two while also wishing them congratulations. Anthony turns and kisses London as the two admire the love they’re getting from
Everyone in the room.
LONDON CARTER•KING: We haven’t thought of any names yet but once we do I’m sure we’ll let you guys know.
MARCUS KAIN: So question and don’t take this as disrespect but how does that work?
LONDON CARTER•KING: What you mean?
MARCUS KAIN: I mean y’all gay, y’all can’t have no babies, so is one of the females in the room carrying the baby or sumthin?
Mercedes shakes her head but in a playful manner, she slaps Marcus’ arm.
MERCEDES: Boy you not that slow, you know how.
LONDON CARTER•KING: He good, but to answer your question Marcus yes, we have someone who is carrying the baby for us, and no she isn’t in this room.
MARCUS KAIN: Ah I see.
Y’LAYNA BRYANT: yall have no idea how hard it was keeping that in. I am so happy for my best friend! And anything! You both are gonna be great parents
LONDON CARTER•KING: But I appreciate y’all.
Both London and Anthony sit back down.
BROOKLYN CARTER•WEST: So while we sitting here talking about babies and relationships, Y’layna what’s up with you? Where is Majesty?
Y'layna rolls her eyes and cracks an obviously fake smile.
Y’LAYNA BRYANT: Unfortunately… your Majesty won't be joining us tonight. He is shooting a music video in Miami…. Moving along!
BROOKLYN CARTER•WEST: I knew Y’layna was having some issues with her relationship, just from the private conversations we’ve had. But him not being here today proves the problem they’re having, I just hope she’s happy at the end of the day.
The scene cuts back to the dinner.
BROOKLYN CARTER•WEST: Oop, maybe this is a conversation for another time?
Y’LAYNA BRYANT: absolutely. I'm worried about those who had the time to show up and celebrate with me
AUGUST WEST: Damn, We haven’t really seen him
Around much.
Y’LAYNA BRYANT: I know. We've had that same conversation. I don't really know what to say about it anymore. I'm just tired of giving it my energy right now.
BROOKLYN CARTER•WEST: Just know we are all here for you, and I’m sorry things aren’t working in your favor.
Y’layna nods, she turns her head not giving anyone another response and she sips on her drink.
MERCEDES: Listen tonight is about celebrating, we have two people who are being blessed with a baby, and your redoing your store, I mean this is the time we all celebrate and have fun.
MARCUS KAIN: She’s right, to be honest y’all we all family, or close enough.
BROOKLYN CARTER•WEST: Agreed.
Y’LAYNA BRYANT: Thank you everyone, I’m just dealing with some personal relationship issues but other then that my life is great and I’m happy to be surrounded by good people, I love y’all.
ANTHONY: So let’s toast.
LONDON CARTER•KING: To new beginnings, humble blessings, and good health and wealth.
BRANDON YOUNG•ANDEWS: Yaaaaas for health and wealth.
Everyone holds their glasses up and toasts to each other, they all take a sip as the scene fades downtown Hollywood, Corey is shown walking with one of his good friends Rashaad Jordyn, the two head into a local Starbucks and both order their drinks.
COREY LEWIS: Today I decided to link up with one of my good friends from high school. He just finished studying overseas and finally moved back to LA, since I was uninvited to the little dinner party, I decided to hit him up and catch up.
The scene cuts back to the two.
COREY LEWIS: Yo, I’m happy you're back in LA bro, it hasn’t been the same without you.
RASHAAD JORDYN: I know, it felt like forever even though it was only a year.
COREY LEWIS: A year is a long time man, I was going crazy.
RASHAAD JORDYN: If you weren’t so anti social then it wouldn’t be an issue, I thought you and Anthony were hanging out.
COREY LEWIS: I mean we were, but.
RASHAAD JORDYN: Oh God! But what?
COREY LEWIS: I mean it’s no beef between us, but he has this friend that i know for a fact has a problem with me now!
RASHAAD JORDYN: What the hell did you do? I thought you said you weren’t involved with that lifestyle anymore.
COREY LEWIS: Nah I’m not talking about that, this is something totally different.
COREY LEWIS: Back in the day ya boy was a criminal, my rap sheet not pretty but since I’ve gotten older I’ve changed a lot. Rashaad knows a lot about what I went through in the past because at one point we were lovers, my fucks up kind of messed the relationship up but at the end of the day we still ended up becoming really good friends and having some sort of relationship even if it wasn’t romantic.
Corey shrugs.
COREY LEWIS: But he was someone I could really trust.
The scene cuts back to the two.
COREY LEWIS: To make a long story short, his best friend dude is someone I was I guess you could say I was talking to. We never hooked up, but I was feeling dude.
RASHAAD JORDYN: So what happened?
COREY LEWIS: It’s over, he’s back with his dude and I wasn’t trying to jeopardize me and Anthony’s friendship.
RASHAAD JORDYN: I don’t know what to say honestly, it sucks that happen but it’s a good thing you did that. Relationships come and go but good friendships last forever and I remember how close you two were in high school.
COREY LEWIS: Yea that’s what I was thinking, but it just sucks that it went down like that because I was honestly feeling dude.
RASHAAD JORDYN: You already know LA is full of fake people and relationships, so you just have to be careful with who you give your heart to. You’re honestly a good dude with a big heart, and one day someone deserving will come along friend, you just have to be patient.
COREY LEWIS: Rashaad was right, I made the best decision in letting that nigga go, and me taking dude from ole boy wouldn’t sit right with me. I know for a fact I could of had dude in my bed, but who's to say he wouldn’t turn around and do the same to me.
The scene cuts back to the two.
COREY LEWIS: Well the good thing is your back and that’s all that matters to me.
RASHAAD JORDYN: Awe that’s sweet Corey, I’m happy to be back.
COREY LEWIS: So what are you doing after this?
RASHAAD JORDYN: Uhh, nothing! Why?
Rashaad smirks.
COREY LEWIS: I’m just saying if you weren’t busy then you could stop by the crib, I got some new bootlegs, so we can chill you know like old times.
RASHAAD JORDYN: I’m down.
The two smile and they both grab they’re drinks, they walk towards the door and the credits start to roll and the scene fades.
